Quake III Arena

Quake III Arena deathmatch inside the chat

GameRealtimeWorks, with rough edges

What it does

The classic fast first-person shooter, running in the app: play the free Open Arena (bundled, small map) or the Quake III Arena demo, or upload the full game files you own. Players in the same chat can join the same match; the game traffic goes over the webxdc realtime channel. Best on a computer with keyboard and mouse.

How to use it

  1. Tap Play Open Arena (or the Quake III demo)
  2. Wait for the arena to load; others in the room who start the same game join your match
  3. Move with the arrow keys or WASD, aim with the mouse, click to fire
  4. Use the menu to leave or to copy a multiplayer link

Known issues

Two players do not end up in one match (widget)
Ada and Ben both start Open Arena (Ben 6 s, then 12 s after Ada); each gets a match of their own. The scoreboard of each lists only themselves, and the HUD shows the red network-problem icon in the bottom right. Multiplayer goes over joinRealtimeChannel (emulated WebRTC); whether the realtime messages arrive was not traced.
